Artist's Description

This beautiful mermaid in a bathtub was inspired by my love of vintage models from the early 1900's, and my love for antiques. She is playfully lounging in a claw foot, cast iron bathtub, on a black and white tile floor, with deep red textured wallpaper completing the scene. The moon and the stars hang peacefully above her in a crystal clear night sky. My original piece is hand painted, mixed media on cradled clayboard, which is a super flat clay surface mounted on hardboard. The surface is then layered with textured fine art paper and acrylic paint. If you look closely at her tail, you can see that I used tiny pieces of art paper to build the texture, and then painted on top of the paper in shades of gold, copper and silver. She also is reflecting some copper in her hair, and the red textured background has a beautiful fleur de lis pattern. Finally, the piece is sealed with a high gloss varnish.

About Linda Queally

Linda Queally

I am a Water Artist, a Light Worker, and a Believer in the Magic of Love. My paintings depict Water Spirits... Mermaids, Mermen, Gods, Goddesses, Spirit Guides, Protectors and Swimmers. I work in acrylic and fine art paper on Ampersand Claybord, with my direction coming from dreams and meditation. I graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, and then moved to Los Angeles, where I studied at the Otis Art Institute. Although I've traveled both nationally and internationally, what makes me the most proud is to call Los Angeles home for over thirty six years.
